GIFT Nifty Trading Hours and Sessions: Full Schedule for UAE, US, and UK NRIs

A reader in Sharjah once asked us something simple.
"When exactly should I check GIFT Nifty before NSE opens?"
It's a practical question.
And the answer depends entirely on where you live.
GIFT Nifty operates in two trading sessions to align with both Indian and international time zones: Session I runs from 6:30 AM to 3:40 PM IST, and Session II runs from 4:35 PM to 2:45 AM IST the next day.
That's nearly 21 hours of trading every day.
But knowing the IST times alone isn't enough if you're based in Dubai, London, or New York. This guide maps every session to your local time zone — practically, without jargon.
The Two Sessions Explained
Session I runs from 6:30 AM to 3:40 PM IST, followed by a break from 3:40 PM to 4:35 PM IST, and Session II continues from 4:35 PM to 2:45 AM IST the next day.
The break between sessions is roughly 55 minutes.
It is not a full market close. It is a settlement pause.
Session I: 6:30 AM to 3:40 PM IST
This is the primary session.
It opens two hours and forty-five minutes before NSE. The window from 6:30 AM to 9:15 AM IST is the pre-market signal window most NRI investors care about.
During this window, GIFT Nifty is absorbing the US market close from the overnight Session II, Asian market opens like Nikkei and Hang Seng, crude oil price, and the USD/INR rate.
Once NSE opens at 9:15 AM, both exchanges trade simultaneously until 3:30 PM IST.
This is the highest-liquidity window for GIFT Nifty trading. Institutional participants are active on both exchanges simultaneously, keeping GIFT Nifty price closely aligned with the Nifty 50 spot level.
Session II: 4:35 PM to 2:45 AM IST
This session begins after NSE closes and captures European and US market hours.
The evening and overnight session overlaps with European institutional participation. FTSE 100, DAX, and CAC 40 are active during this window, and risk-on or risk-off signals from Europe can cause meaningful moves in GIFT Nifty during these hours.
Later into the night, US markets dominate.
A US Fed statement at 2 AM IST will move GIFT Nifty well before any Indian market opens.
👉 Session II is where the next day's opening direction is often set. If you want to understand what drives tomorrow's NSE open, check where GIFT Nifty closed in Session II.
GIFT Nifty Hours by Time Zone
This is what most articles skip.
Here is the full session schedule mapped to UAE, UK, and US time zones.
Note: UK times shift by one hour during British Summer Time (BST), roughly late March to late October. US times shift during daylight saving, roughly March to November. IST does not observe daylight saving.
What This Means by Location
If you are an NRI in the UAE
The pre-market window opens at 5:00 AM UAE time.
Most UAE-based NRIs we speak to check GIFT Nifty between 7:00 and 7:45 AM Gulf time, just before NSE opens at 7:45 AM local time.
Session II opens at 3:05 PM UAE time — right after a typical workday. That's a practical window to check how GIFT Nifty is heading into the European session.
👉 For UAE-based NRIs, the 7:00 to 7:45 AM window is the most actionable pre-market check of the day.
If you are an NRI in the UK
Session I opens at 1:00 AM GMT (2:00 AM BST in summer).
That is not a practical time to watch.
The useful window for UK-based NRIs is early morning, around 7:00 to 8:00 AM, when you can review overnight GIFT Nifty movement before your day begins.
Session II opens at 11:05 AM GMT. UK-based NRIs often check GIFT Nifty around midday to see how European macro data is affecting sentiment on Indian equities.
If you are an NRI in the US
The US East Coast is on the opposite end of the clock from India.
NSE opens at 10:45 PM EST the previous evening (11:45 PM during daylight saving). Session II, which captures US market hours most directly, opens at 6:05 AM EST.
For US-based NRIs, the most relevant GIFT Nifty window is during the US afternoon session.
That is when Wall Street moves directly affect overnight GIFT Nifty direction.
If you review your India mutual fund or equity portfolio in the evening, Session II tells you in real time how US market sentiment is influencing your India positions.
The Pre-Market Window: Why It Matters
The window between 8:30 AM and 9:15 AM IST is the most information-rich part of GIFT Nifty's day.
By that point, GIFT Nifty has already absorbed:
The previous night's US market close
Overnight Asian market opens
Any major currency moves on USD/INR
Crude oil direction
Any India-specific pre-market news
The gap between GIFT Nifty's current price in this window and NSE's previous close is your clearest pre-market signal for opening direction.

What Sessions Tell Resident Indian Investors
If your portfolio is entirely in Indian stocks and funds, you might wonder why session timings matter to you.
Here is why they do.
When GIFT Nifty's Session II shows a sustained pattern of weakness night after night, it often signals FPI (foreign portfolio investor) outflows from India.
That is a macro signal about global appetite for Indian equities, not just tomorrow's opening.
Over weeks, this pattern can raise a useful question: am I overexposed to India?
GIFT City mutual funds give resident Indians a legal, simple route to global exposure, denominated in USD, without LRS documentation complexity every time.
Funds like the DSP Global Equity Fund, Tata India Dynamic Equity Fund, Edelweiss Greater China Equity Fund, and Sundaram India Mid Cap Fund let you build a portfolio that is not entirely tied to India's domestic cycle.
👉 Consistent GIFT Nifty Session II weakness is not a panic signal. It is a prompt to ask whether your portfolio needs global balance.
Holidays and Closures
GIFT Nifty follows the NSE IFSC holiday calendar.
This may differ from the domestic NSE holiday schedule.
GIFT Nifty may trade on days when NSE India is closed for certain regional holidays, and vice versa.
Before making decisions based on GIFT Nifty data on a holiday, verify the NSE IFSC trading calendar at nseix.com directly. Do not assume both exchanges share the same holiday list.
Beyond GIFT Nifty: What Else GIFT City Offers NRIs
GIFT Nifty is one signal within a larger GIFT City investment ecosystem.
NRIs can also access Alternative Investment Funds, compare NRI FD rates across banks, and explore GIFT City IPOs, all within the same IFSC regulatory framework.
At Belong, we bring these tools together in one place.

There is approximately a 55-minute break between Session I (closing at 3:40 PM IST) and Session II (opening at 4:35 PM IST). This is used for settlement processing.
